Use your GPS with paper maps
While many folks consider a GPS useless unless it includes electronic maps while there are other people that prefer to use paper maps always. Paper maps are generally much larger than the small screen present on most GPS receivers and provide both detail and an overview of the surrounding area all at once. If you purchase maps that include a GPS grid you can use the latitude and longitude values provided on your GPS to find your location on the paper map. Road maps and some atlasÂ’ provide a GPS grid as one of their features but many do not so you have to check before you buy. Topographic maps and marine charts always include this information. Learn to use this valuable feature with your GPS. The paper map becomes a backup if your GPS should fail for any reason. It is always good to have a backup.
